Stokesley North Yorkshire Market Town
Stokesley is a market town in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire. With a population of around 5000 it is one of the smaller of the North ridings market towns. Stokesley is set between the North York moors to the south and the industrial town of Middlesbrough on the River Tees to the north.
The River Leven flows through the town on its way to the Tees at Yarm. Many small bridges cross the water including a 17th century stone packhorse bridge.
The great wide market square (the "plain") still hosts Stokesley's weekly market on Fridays. The town has many independent shops as well as a small supermarket.
